57 bands play across the Hobgoblin New Blood and Jagermeister stages at Bloodstock Festival this year (if I’ve counted correctly). Every single one has agreed to a brief pre-festival interview and we’ve got well over half of these back already and are editing them for the page.
Thanks to every one of the acts – and their PR / management – for helping us get this thing rolling. Moshville Times was originally set up with the aim of drawing attention to the many unsigned, underground, self-financed and “smaller” acts out there – and it’s an aim we will never lose site of.
Getting to cover the more established acts is a bonus for us here which we’re obviously very happy about. James is speaking to Trivium at the festival, I had words with Max Cavalera a couple of months ago, Martin spoke to Joe Lyn Turner and Tim “Ripper” Owens last week, we enjoyed the company of Black Stone Cherry the other month…
None of that would have been possible were it not for our bread and butter – the smaller bands. The ones just starting out. Those self-funders who play small venues and work their arses off for the chance to tread the same boards ing acts like the ones I just mentioned. The ones who’ve been going for years and throw all their spare cash into recording an album not because it’s going to net them a contract with a huge company, but because of the sense of accomplishment and pride they take in doing what they do.
The existing backbone and the future of the music we all love.
I’ve seen, for some reason, a large number of posts recently about how hard it is to make a living out of music (of any genre), especially these days. I’ve heard it in interviews and we’ve seen some pretty big names give their opinions in recent weeks.
Some of this is probably true, but what’s definitely true is this: rock and metal will never die. Not while bands like those 57 acts on the ing stages at Bloodstock are still plying their trade.
So wear your battle jackets with pride, hold those horns high and these artists! We always will!
