Independent Venue Week: Audio, Glasgow

Independent Venue Week Logo

As part of our series featuring venues involved in Independent Venue Week (Jan 23-29), Mosh is covering a bunch of the Glasgow locations…

Name: Audio

Address: 14 Midland Street, Glasgow, G1 4PP

Website: www.audioglasgow.co.uk

Date Founded: 2013 approx.

Capacity: 200

Brief History: Opened to replace the Rockers venue that occupied the same space, Audio is snugly ensconced in the arches underneath Glasgow Central station. Within a short time of opening, its intimate size had allowed it to play host to a staggering number of well-known bands. The owners reinvest a significant portion of their profits into improving the venue, taking suggestions from their own customers as to what to prioritise.

Personal Experience: A great little venue… and I mean “little”. The tiny capacity makes for great gigs for those bands that can’t quite pull in a bigger audience. A packed house is virtually guaranteed for even the smallest bands, and there’s no “pit” at the stage so if you’re at the front then you’re right at the front. The sound is good, the ceiling is low, the toilets are… not great and the beer’s a little pricey but it’s a lovely place to listen to live music. Audio is the epitome of the grungy rock/metal venue.

Notable Acts Played There: Nile, Ex Deo, Kataklysm, Aborted, Therion, Anaal Nathrakh, Destruction, Flotsam & Jetsam, Servant Sun, Fleshgod Apocalypse, Wolf, Vader, Marduk…

Highlights Coming Up: Ghoul 26th Feb, Jizzy Pearl’s Love Hate 31st March, Asphyx 10th June
