As part of our series featuring venues involved in Independent Venue Week (Jan 23-29), Sheggs is covering a bunch of the Yorkshire locations…

Name: Fibbers
Address: 3 – 5 Toft Green, York, YO1 6JT
Website: www.fibbers.co.uk
Telephone number: 01904 620203
Date Founded: 1992
Capacity: 850

Brief History: The original Fibbers was well established on the York music scene and had played host to many bands in its day. Following problems with the lease and suggestions that their building was going to be demolished, the venue upped sticks (still within the city limits) and opened a new venue for the Fibbers brand. The new venue also meant almost doubling the capacity from 450 to 850 and enabling them to attract bigger names to play York. Many; like New Model Army last year; for the first time.
Personal Experience: Fibbers is one of those venues everyone knows but I never got to go to it until it moved to the Toft Green premises. The venue now is great. Plenty of room for a capacity crowd and with a craft ale bar attached to it next door it is already proving to be a great venue and one which hopefully will be around for at least another 22 years.
Notable Acts Played Here: The Killers, The Artic Monkeys, The Stereophonics, Bullet For My Valentine, Bring Me The Horizon, Skid Row, You Me At Six, Temperance Movement
Highlights Coming Up: Skindred 8th Feb, The Quireboys 13th April, While She Sleeps 20th April
