Revolution Rabbit Deluxe are a band with plans and those plans are in motion! With a new single out, two more planned and an album before the end of the year, here’s the lowdown and the skinny on them…
Simple things first – where are you guys from?
We are remnants of stardust that just so happened to be scattered across the South Wales valleys, Cardiff, Cwmbran, Caerphilly and Newbridge.
How did you meet?
The slightly surreal but almost true version: I met Max Perera, our lead guitarist cast adrift at sea. She was singing “where is my mind” by the Pixies. It was that which convinced me to persuade her to learn guitar and forces with the rabbits. Lee Titterrell, our drummer, we picked up on the way to a gig. He was attempting to hitchhike to 1920s London (long story). Tim Lawley, our bass player, we found on Craigslist. He was 50% off, seemed like a real deal. I’m still waiting for my refund
How long have you been playing as a band?
RRD formed in 2019 but this version of the band has been together since 2023.
Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?
Rev Rabbit, vocalist and rhythm guitar, was making up fun band names on a car trip. He started with Rabbit as he’s had an almost lifelong fascination and ownership of bunnies. Suddenly a vision of Che Guevara’s famous mono colour poster filled his mind, with the face replaced by a rabbit. That gave him Revolution Rabbit. He added the deluxe for a bit of sparkle.
What are your influences?
Max and Rev Rabb share many musical influences. Mainly Pixies, Beatles, Smashing Pumpkins, Feeder. Max also likes her metal (sabbath, mastodon etc). Something Rev Rabb is less keen on. Tim loves Mogwai and New Order. Lee is very eclectic but cannot be persuaded to listen to Rev Rabb’s XTC collection. A step too far even for Lee.
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
Melodic alt rock, emphasis on melody. Our uniqueness comes from each adding our own take of a song to the finished product. Max’s sharp singalong lead lines, Tim’s pushing bass, Lee’s own particular groove and Rev Rabbit’s nonstandard chord sequences and acerbic lyrics.
Do you have any particular lyrical themes?
Inequality and injustice make Rev Rabbit angry. These themes spawn many songs. Our forthcoming album features themes such as Musk and Bezos wasting money that could feed the world (Chapter 9). Self entitlement (Generation Voyeur). Alien abduction in reverse, the alien gets abducted ( Lie Deceive Control). Learning to love one’s self (Rise / Monkey on my Back).

What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?
Some have had mental health issues, Rev Rabbit has ASD, so this leads to humble appreciation of our position and platform. We aren’t a show like Beyoncé etc but we are lively in our music. Imagine Feeder or the Pixies. We are similar but there’s still plenty of awkward angst to go around
What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?
Navigating the three inches of piss in the men’s at the legendary TJ’s in Newport. You needed a dinghy. Always an adventure, never a pleasure.
What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?
Rev Rabbit uses Ibanez guitars for their double octave necks, a Laney Linebacker 100W for big gigs, a Joyo Meteor 2 for smaller gigs, and a ElectroHarmonix Green Russian moded Big Muff.
Lee uses SJC shells, Worldmax snare, Sabian HH & HHX cymbals, Yamaha & Mapex hardware
Max uses – Rockwood Hohner electric guitar – Epiphone Casino electric guitar – Ibanez electroacoustic – Valeton Dapper Mini multi fx pedal – Lekato 5.8GHz transmitters – Joyo Zombie 2 amp head – Peavey Vypyr 100W combo amp
Tim uses Squier Classic Vibe 70s Precision Bass Guitar and Laney Digbeth bass amp and cab
What, if anything, are you plugging/promoting at the moment?
At the moment it is the second single, “Parabellum”, from our currently untitled sixth album. There will be two more singles with the album slated for a 15 August release date.
What are your plans for the next 6 months or so?
We are working towards getting the album ready for its release date. That is our main focus but we are gigging in downtime. We are also looking for festival slots.
If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be ing and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!
It would have to be the Pixies or Feeder. We would love to ask Critter Cabal or Dropping Like Flies – both superb Welsh bands – to the bill.
