Due to the huge number of bands playing at Bloodstock this year, and the fact that our two roving reporters will actually want to watch some of them, we’re doing a little round of pre-festival interviews this year. We’re focussing on the bands playing the Jagermeister and Hobgoblin New Blood Stages so they get a chance to convince you to go and watch them. , these guys and gals are the future of our musical world!
Simple things first – where are you guys from?
We’re from Dublin. Crumlin and Tallaght to be more specific.
How did you meet?
Myself and our drummer Jake have been playing together for years – too long! Pretty much learned to play together, our singer and bassist Ian got in touch with an ad we put up online.
How long have you been playing together as a band?
We’ve been playing together near on three years now.
Where does the name of the band come from?
The band name came from a spur of the moment decision before a gig. I was going through a mad Sabbath buzz at the time and liked that song …that’s about as deep as it gets.
What are your influences – individually or as a band?
We’re into bands like Megadeth, Iron Maiden, Mastodon, Thin Lizzy and a lot of other strange and wonderful music, but they’re the bands that influenced us the most starting off.
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
How unique is our music, that’s hard to know… Maybe it isn’t! We’re just writing what we want to hear and what’s fun to play, no limitations or restrictions. We’re metal, I guess, but only by a gee hair compared to today’s standards, I feel. It’s hard to describe your own band, so I won’t! Although Simon Hall who picked us to play Bloodstock referred to us as “the bastard child of Rush, Budgie and Ghost”. Take that whatever way you want.
What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?
I like to think of our live show as kind of old fashioned, just three blokes who love playing, up on stage lashing out a few tunes no bells and whistles. I don’t know how many gigs we’ve played,. Maybe a million!
When/how did you find out you’d been selected to play at Bloodstock?
We found out we were playing at the gig in May. We were chosen by Simon Hall (great man altogether) and we didn’t expect it. Was a shock when we heard our name being called out, by far the proudest moment we’ve had as a band. Hopefully only to be matched by playing at Bloodstock.
What sort of set list can we expect?
A compact set! Were gonna make the most out of every second given to us.
Which main stage band do you most hope you’re not clashing with so you can see them play?
We’re hoping not to clash with Orange Goblin and Cannibal Corpse. I’d say they’d be upset if that happened too.
What are you working on at the moment?
At the moment were working on a special release just for Bloodstock, so if anybody likes what they hear they can go home with a two-song goodie bag from the Snowblind party. And a dashing new Snowblind t-shirt to curl up in after a long day of being super metal.
What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done on tour?
We once got paid after a gig … pretty fucking wild.
What advice would you give to a young band just starting out today?
I wouldn’t say that we’re in any position to give advice but just practice your arse off and enjoy yourself.
If you could be part of any 3-band line-up (as or headlining) who else would you have on the bill?
Hmm… so many choices! I’d like to play with Mastodon and Megadeth, I’d put them on first just to piss off Mustaine! Only joking – Dave’s a legend! And maybe Ghost and Gojira too. I know you said three but maybe we could just be back stage bowing “we’re not worthy! and ploughing Mustaine with drugs to get him back to his good old self.
