Here we go again… Last year we covered every band on the Hobgoblin New Blood and Jagermeister stages in the run-up to Bloodstock 2015. This year, we’re going one better and aim to have interviews from all the bands on those two stages as well as all of those on the SOPHIE stage prior to the event kicking off on August 11th. That’s almost 100 interviews to get online for you lucky people over the course of the next couple of weeks. I bloody love this job, but you lot owe me a beer at Catton Hall, right?
Thanks to all the bands who’ve taken the time to respond so far!
Vicious Nature – Jagermeister Stage, Saturday
Simple things first – where are you guys from?
Andy Pyke Birmingham, Andy Southwell Rugeley, Mark Culley Rugeley, JB Brown Walsall.
How did you meet?
Andy Pyke and Andy Southwell already knew each other from Marshall Law days. Andy Southwell also knew Mark Culley from a previous band called Realm. Andy Pyke knew Jb Brown from Cloven Hoof as they had both played on the same bill on occasion. Also during Andy Pykes down time from Marshall Law when he had left the band Andy Pyke and JB had had a jam together on occasion. So one afternoon the phone rang and Andy Pyke was asked by MARK Culley and Andy Southwell if he was interested in writing some songs and have a listen to some already recorded material. Andy Pyke took them up on their offer. Andy Pyke then ed JB and that is how we now have the Vicious Nature current line-up.
How long have you been playing together as a band?
Since 2013.
Where does the name of the band come from?
The name of the band comes from the nasty aggressive vicious approach to the music we produce. Hence the name Vicious Nature.
What are your influences – individually or as a band?
Our influences vary from each band member to the next it’s an eclectic mix in fact. Anything from Motorhead to Ozzy, Lamb of God to Five Finger Death Punch, Disturbed to Slayer. The list is potentially endless.
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
Our music is brutal, it’s powerful and it’s aggressive – a hybrid of new and old skool. Described by some as “PURE HEAVY METAL”, massive riffs with spitting venom vocals and catchy tunage. What make us unique? I think seasoned songwriters who can deliver on stage as well as in the studio, with emphasis on entertaining and giving value for money as well as being brutal live! Setting the bar high giving a powerful and honest performance with a smile and a snarl.
How many shows have you played?
We have played a large amount of gigs throughout the UK and Europe, building up a loyal and devoted following. Playing at Bloodstock will be an honour and a massive help in raising the band’s profile even further. “Spreading metal to the masses”.
When/how did you find out you’d been selected to play at Bloodstock?
We received a phone call from one of the promoters after sending in promo packs and working hard on the circuit gaining a respected reputation.
What sort of setlist can we expect?
That depends on time of course but we will cram in most of our outstanding songs and possibly throw in a Marshall Law Cover as well as a little gem from Black Sabbath.
What main stage band do you hope to see?
Slayer!
What are you working on at the moment?
At the moment we are rehearsing to keep tight as we have a few shows before Bloodstock. We are at the same time writing for our first album release so that’s kinda taking priority right at the moment.
What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen and done on tour?
What happens on tour stays on tour – that would be telling! But we have witnessed some unbelievable things in all our time on the road. I will tell you when I see you!!!
What advice would you give to a young band starting out?
Get as tight as you can play a few low key gigs, gauge response and keep writing songs. Also be so careful with regards labels and managers – THEY WILL TRY TO RIP YOU OFF. GET A GOOD LAWYER!!! Never lose sight of your dreams!!
If you could be part of any 3-band line-up who else would you have on the bill? One band above you and one below – a chance to plug a smaller, unsigned act!
Band line up and bill would be SLAYER / VICIOUS NATURE / VALOUS.
What day time are you playing?
It’s not been made official yet however we are playing on the SATURDAY, that’s all we know at the time of responding to the interview. [They are indeed on the Saturday, playing the Jagermeister stage – Mosh]
