Prior to their performance at HRH Metal, I had the opportunity to catch up with Netherhall and discuss their plans and also some of their gear that they use.
You’re playing HRH metal later on today, are you looking forward to it?
We are indeed and can’t wait to hit the stage. It’s our first time here so it’s going to be a real treat for us.
This is the second year the festival has sold out. Can you think of any reasons why?
The calibre of the bands, we’d say. It’s always good when a festival sells out two years in a row so having a reputation for putting on good bands probably helps and it shows that the Birmingham metal scene is growing. There’s so many bands playing today that we want to see so they’ve done a good job with that!
What are your plans for the next 6 to 12 months?
We’ve a few more gigs lined up which we’re looking forward to. Today is our first gig with our new vocalist so we’re looking forward to showing folks what we’ve got and potentially recording some stuff soon. We’re headlining the O2 Institute in Birmingham on the 30th March which is our biggest headline gig in Birmingham so we’re really looking forward to that.
What gear are you using today?
That’s our kind of question! Our guitarist is using a Peavey 5150 II with a Mayonnes Regious 6 which is a lovely guitar and then he’s got a pedalboard full of Strymon pedals. Our bassist uses a Genz Benz rig with a Warwick Jazzman bass and a spaceship pedal-board full of fx pedals. Our drummer recently got a Holy China and just tries to make as much noise as humanly possibly.
If you had to pick next year’s headliner, who would you pick?
Karnivool or Tool we’d say. That’d be really cool as Karnivool have not played in the UK in years.
What’s one thing you wish someone told you before you started?
That it’s going to be expensive! Probably also that it’s going to take a long time to make it and there’s a lot of money and hard work that goes into it.
Tea or coffee?
Coffee for most of us but some of us have both.
