#RoadToBOA2019 – BongCauldron

It’s that time of year again, when in the run-up to Bloodstock we endeavour to interview every band gracing the SOPHIE, New Blood and Jägermeister stages from 8th – 11th August 2019. This means you’ve got a chance to read up on all your favourite bands set to play over the weekend and decide which new ones you’ll want to check out.

As ever, we’re predicting some horrible clashes because, true to form, there are some great bands across all three stages so you should start planning who you want to see.

Our thanks to all the bands for taking the time out to answer our questions!

BongCauldron – SOPHIE Stage, Friday

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

Leeds, West Yorkshire.

How long have you been playing together as a band?

Eight years – long enough to know better.

Where does the name of the band come from?

The band pretty much started as a bit of a joke, and the name reflects that. Biscuit came up with it. It’s a daft name for a daft band.

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

Intoxicated party sludge. I’m not sure we’re unique, but in the past few years we’ve definitely brought a lot more thrash and punk influences into our sound. We’re probably just a nice mix of slow and fast now. But always heavy.

What’s your live show like? Why are people going to watch you instead of another band?

Ideally violent. Biscuit is great at getting people worked up and there’s nothing better than people losing their shit while we’re playing, which usually tends to happen. The audience probably get a lot of stage banter and abuse compared to other bands.

Have you played Bloodstock before? If so, when?

No, but quite a lot of our friends have and it sounds like a lot of fun.

How/when did you find out that you’d be playing the SOPHIE stage on the Friday?

I think it was just an email from Simon to be honest. We’d been hoping to be asked for the past few years so it was great to finally get the offer.

What sort of setlist can we expect?

This will be our last gig before we go on hiatus, so we’ll throw everything in there. Old and new, fast and slow.

Which other band do you most hope you’re not clashing with so you can see them play?

Widows are on the same day as us, so hopefully we won’t clash. They’re top lads, we’ve played with them a few times.

What are you working on at the moment?

We’ve just announced an indefinite hiatus, so at the moment we’re working on not doing anything.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

Our audiences are usually pretty lively, but Manchester gigs are the craziest. We played the outdoor stage at Riff Fest a few years ago in Bolton and there was a lot of crowd surfing and some pretty savage pits. During the set the gutter above the stage started falling down and someone got knocked out.

What drink do you throw back to get yourself fired up before going on stage?

We used to drink way more at gigs, a few beers always helps though. The same can’t be said for when we decided to do four Jagerbombs each, right before an interview at HRH in Sheffield. Needless to say it was never broadcast.
