Interview: John Cook of Newcastle’s The Reign

Carrying on with my nostalgic trip down memory lane, I caught up with an old friend John Cook who was the bassist/vocalist for thrash/groove band The Reign. The Reign hailed from Newcastle and had reached some success with record deals (releasing three albums) and extensive tours across Europe. Unfortunately as with a lot of metal bands in the late 90s, metal was not flavour of the month which unfortunately led to the band’s demise.

John had no hesitation in accepting my invite for a chat, and it was like catching up with an old friend about the glory days of tape trading, sending letters via snail mail and the gigs back in the day. It was an absolute pleasure talking to this gentle giant, and it was most pleasing to hear that he may not quite be done with music as of yet. Watch this space.

You may want to get a beer for this one… it’s a long one!!!
