It’s that time of year where we set out to interview as many of the Sophie, New Blood, and Jager bands as we can in the lead-up to one of the most anticipated festivals of the year, Bloodstock. Answering our questions here are Hawxx who play the New Blood Stage on Saturday.
Simple things first – where are you guys from?
All over! Anna is from Greece, Hannah is Welsh, Jess is English and Iman is from Bahrain.
How long have you been playing together as a band?
3 years in August so playing Bloodstock is a great anniversary gift to each other!
Where does the name of the band come from?
HAWXX comes from the bird of prey (Eagles was taken).
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
Heavy AF alt-metal with 3 part harmony vocals. We really take pride in our lyrics and and tackle subjects like mental health issues to lies of the diet industry. We really want our songs and our shows to be inclusive.
What’s your live show like? Why are people going to watch you instead of another band?
We’re so excited to play! We’re going to be showcasing a few unreleased tracks – can’t wait! I feel the pain of clashes but…I don’t think you’ll see another band like us…watch us.

Have you been to Bloodstock before? What did you think?
We are Bloodstock newbies actually – can’t wait to experience it – the lineup is amazing.
Which M2tM region did you win, or did you come through other channels?
We won the London round – massive thanks to the M2tM team! Such a great event.
Can you put into 10 words or fewer how it felt when you realised you were heading to Bloodstock?
God, I hope this happens -> Shit, we need to rehearse.
What sort of setlist can we expect?
Really excited about this setlist – so proud of our new tracks we’ll be playing – the set starts with a punch in the face, it has some dynamics… essentially, it’s banger after banger!
Which other bands do you most hope you’re not squished up next to so you can see them play?
Jinjer and Loathe look as if they’re threatening to clash, which would be a shame.
What are you working on at the moment?
Lots of background work to release the next EP – we’ve filmed our first music video, commissioning artwork…lots to do!

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?
We went to the pilot – Iman broke her hand catching a crowdsurfer and Anna messed up her knee in the circlepit. We were like the Walking Dead leaving the festival – we can’t be trusted.
What drink do you throw back to get yourself fired up before going on stage?
Whatever’s going!
