It’s that time of year where we set out to interview as many of the Sophie, New Blood, and Jager bands as we can in the lead-up to one of the most anticipated festivals of the year, Bloodstock. Answering our questions here are Colpocleisis who play the New Blood Stage on Friday.
Simple things first – where are you guys from?
Not so simple haha. We formed in Liverpool but now have a drummer from Manchester and a vocalist from near Bedford.
How long have you been playing together as a band?
The band was formed back in 2015 in Liverpool. There’s been a handful of lineup changes, but the four of us have been playing together since late 2018. We seem a solid unit now!
Where does the name of the band come from?
The traditional approach for death metal bands looking through a medical dictionary for unused names and of grim and horrible diseases, conditions and operations.
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
Churning low end guitars punctuated by slappy bass and pingy snare and smothered in blocked drain vocals. Or otherwise 4 lads with varied tastes in heavy music form into a Megazord of a brutal slamming death metal band!

What’s your live show like? Why are people going to watch you instead of another band?
We provide a considerably more energetic live show than other bands in our genre but also deliver it with a sense of humour to keep the crowd smiling between the slam induced gurns.
Have you been to Bloodstock before? What did you think?
This will be the first time for Jon. Ste (guitarist) has actually performed twice previously with Exhumation and Kryocell.
Which M2tM region did you win, or did you come through other channels?
We were booked directly by Simon through submission.
Can you put into 10 words or fewer how it felt when you realised you were heading to Bloodstock?
Excited! Elated! Ecstatic! Pack the Imodium, I’m gonna shit myself
What sort of setlist can we expect?
We have tracks from our debut full length, our EP and some new unreleased tracks expected to appear on our second album.

Which other bands do you most hope you’re not squished up next to so you can see them play?
For me I wanna catch Napalm Death, Loathe and Devin Townsend, and our pals, Foetal Juice opening up the main stage which is huge for UKDM. We wouldn’t want to miss Party Cannon, Strangle Wire or Godeater either.
What are you working on at the moment?
Were almost finished writing our 2nd full length which we are aiming to release winter 2021/22.
What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?
Seeing all the crazy stuff Municipal Waste did during live shows was always entertaining. Crazy stage dives from balconies and PA systems. Pete Steele at Wacken with Type O Negative throwing entire bottles of red wine into the crowd was also really funny.
What drink do you throw back to get yourself fired up before going on stage?
Lewis loves a Dragon Soop, vodka and battery acid cocktail. The rest of us enjoy a shot of Jack or Buckfast if it’s available.
