Road To Bloodstock 2022 – Vulgar Dissection

It’s that time of year where we set out to interview as many of the Sophie, New Blood, and Jager bands as we can in the lead-up to one of the most anticipated festivals of the year, Bloodstock. Answering our questions here are Vulgar Dissection who play the Jagermeister stage on the Friday.

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

Vulgar Dissection are from Hartlepool, UK.

How long have you been playing together as a band?

We started as a band in 2016 playing Venom , Municipal Waste and Megadeth covers. We wrote an original set and played our first show at The Bunker in Hartlepool, ending our set with “Raining Blood” by Slayer.

Where does the name of the band come from?

The name Vulgar Dissection came from our bass player, Luke Kerr, inspired by our favourite band Cannibal Corpse.  We believe it sums up our disgusting sound.

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

We play straight forward death metal but what sets us apart is our catchy choruses surrounded by death metal chaos and slams.  We don’t want to reinvent the wheel, we just want to play music we like and our fans can grimace to.

What’s your live show like? Why are people going to watch you instead of another band?

Punishing. We will get you shouting fuck and damage your morals.

Have you been to Bloodstock before? What did you think?

We are regulars at bloodstock and are buzzing to play on the Jăger stage with some friends of ours.  The bands that we have seen their in the past have constantly inspired us to make the music we do.  The best festival to go to.

When/how did you find out you’d been selected to play at Bloodstock?

Over the years we have been in with the festival, meeting Simon at Trillians, Newcastle. We got the email to play a couple of months ago and we’ve been busting to tell everyone ever since.

What sort of setlist can we expect?

The main portion of the set is from our debut album ‘Buried and Forgotten’ and some choice new ones, ‘Barbed Wire Masturbation’, ‘Brute Force’ and ‘STD (Sexually Transmitted Dementia’.  We might even take a leaf out of Party Cannon’s book and give out our merch in a creative way.

Which other band do you most hope you’re not clashing with so you can see them play?

There a long list but Party Cannon, Crepitation, Testament and Exodus will be the ones we’re most gutted because they’re a main influence for us. So many bands over the weekend we can’t wait to see, such as Basement Torture Killings.

What are you working on at the moment?

We are currently writing and recording our second album ready for released in the near future. We are playing some of the new songs live and will be bringing a demo CD to share with the Bloodstock crowd

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

Our drummer gets pretty much naked on the regular, he’s recently progressed from boxers to briefs. As any band, food is an important of having a punishing performance, so we decide to fill on a Teeside delicacy, THE PARMO. After an really intense, we saw the half digested remnants of the cheese, chicken and bedchamber sauce (not forgetting the garlic sauce).

What drink do you throw back to get yourself fired up before going on stage?

To fire us up, we have a Cameron’s brewed Strongarm or a pint of Roadcrew found in any self respecting venue in the UK.
