Road To Bloodstock 2023: Those Once Loyal

Our regular run-down of as many of the Bloodstock bands as we can get to talk to us! Those Once Loyal play the Jager stage on the Sunday…

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

We’re all from Nottingham UK!

How long have you been playing together as a band?

Officially I’d say from the start of 2019 so a good few years now.

Where does the name of the band come from?

The name is from the renown Bolt Thrower album, however if you see us expecting something similar, it might be a tad disappointing for you!

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

I’d say we’re a very 00’s metalcore/hardcore inspired unit, we’ve then infused a few underground modern twists into that such as modern NGHC style riffs and vocal hooks to add a unique flavour to the music.

What’s your live show like? Why are people going to watch you instead of another band?

It’s a chaotic half hour of intense music, with moshing, circle pits and aggressive dancing galore! As well as very high energy stage control and catchy choral vocals that will leave a lasting impression on you long after the sets over.

Have you been to Bloodstock before? What did you think?

I’ve been doing the Bloodstock Pilgrimage since 2014, the other haven’t really been to the festival much so it’s going to be a year to for multiple reasons! It’s always been one of the most welcoming, diverse and easy to navigate festivals the UK hosts, you’ll never have a bad time at Bloodstock.

When/how did you find out you’d been selected to play at Bloodstock?

It was a little bit of time ago now, but we got an email through from Simon saying he really loved what we had on offer and gave us a spot on the Jager stage Sunday, felt dead surreal!

What sort of setlist can we expect?

It’s going to be a good mix of fast paced riffage, thick slow breakdowns and melodic solo’s! Slapped together with a few surprises to make this set on of the biggest and best we’ve ever done.

Which other band do you most hope you’re not clashing with so you can see them play?

Thankfully we aren’t clashing with anyone we drastically want to see but it would otherwise be Sepultura, Megadeth and Biohazard.

What are you working on at the moment?

We’re currently working on a few things, including announcing our brand new as well as some other lovely little secrets we can’t wait to reveal in time!

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

At our shows we’ve seen some pretty big pits, giving some of Nottingham’s venues their first circle pit such as the Tap ‘N’ Tumbler as well as a bit of Hardcore dancing as well. Seeing at other shows really can’t be pin pointed, but there’s some mental stories to tell that’s for sure.

What drink do you throw back to get yourself fired up before going on stage?

Fireball Whiskey, it’s just the smoothest thing you could ever drink and really get’s you in the mood to throw down!
