Road to Bloodstock 2024: Nihilanth

Our regular run-down of as many of the Bloodstock bands as we can get to talk to us! Nihilanth play the New Blood stage on the Friday…

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

Belfast, Northern Ireland

How long have you been playing together as a band?

We started jamming in the summer of 2021 and released our 6 track EP The Destroyer of Worlds in March 2023. We’ve had a few lineup changes since then but where we are now is what we’ve been pushing for.

Where does the name of the band come from?

Have you ever played the game Half Life? Basically, the main villains are an Alien race called Nihilanths, they take over and destroy worlds. We thought that sounded pretty metal, so it stuck.

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

Our music is a blend of all our favourite bands we grew up listening to and got inspired by. We love heavy riffs, big chordy sections and disgusting breakdowns. What makes us unique is we bring our own unapologetic style, and we have the absolute craic whilst doing it.

What’s your live show like? Why are people going to watch you instead of another band?

Energetic, we aim to give everyone (including ourselves) sore necks and resting stank faces.

Have you been to Bloodstock before? What did you think?

Yes, Aidan our vocalist was there in 2017. “It was unbelievable, the line up had great variation, and it was really enjoyable being at a “smaller” festival. It changed my opinion on larger festivals after that.”

Which M2tM region did you win, or did you come through other channels?

Northern Ireland

Can you put into 10 words or fewer how it felt when you realised you were heading to Bloodstock?

ABSOLUTE DREAM COME TRUE

What sort of setlist can we expect?

We have a rollercoaster of a 6-song set, starts off in a groove, gets heavier, then gets faster, slows down a touch, back to the heft and then finally gets even heavier.

Stage times haven’t been announced yet, so which other band do you most hope you’re not clashing with so you can see them play?

Hatebreed, our guitarist Pete loves them.

What are you working on at the moment?

We have just released our brand new single “The Valley Beneath”, you’ll be able to catch it live in our set.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

Got to see Rammstein this year in Dublin, they’ve been a bucket list band for a while. Their Live show was insane. Amongst the crazy pyro antics they have a 12-16ft phallic shaped cannon the Til their singer rides and… Dowses the crowd in foam, I was just outside of the splash zone thankfully.

What drink do you throw back to get yourself fired up before going on stage?

Beer or water generally, usually pretty fired to just play the riffs and have the craic on stage.
