We’re closing in on Call of the Wild and we’re going to be back for a second year! So we’re getting to know as many of the bands set to play the Trailblazer Stage in 2025 that we can pin down. Sydney Fate play the Saturday.
Simple things first – where are you guys from?
We’re Sydney Fate, and we hail from the beautiful city of Cardiff and surrounding areas in South Wales!
How long have you been playing together as a band?
Our current incarnation of the band has been together since 2018, we released our first EP, Sound Alive, in December and have been going since.
A few years prior to 2018, our vocalist Bailey and bassist Thomas started the original Sydney Fate and had gigged around the UK before taking a break after two years. After realising how much they both missed being in the centre of the scene, they re-formed with new and jumped straight back in leading to the release of our EP and then debut album, Silicon Nitride, in April 2020 via Eclipse Records.”
Where does the name of the band come from?
During the original line up, we had somehow managed to book our first show at a live venue and hadn’t yet decided on an actual band name… About a week before the gig, Bailey found an old photo he’d taken with a friend in Cardiff at the Gilly Hicks store and it had the name “Sydney” on the paper frame. As a joke, he took the name and added “Fate” next to it (Inspired by the band Escape The Fate) and suggested the short term name to the rest of the guys.
After deciding to stick with the name solely for the first show, and changing it later, the name soon stuck and has become a name we all associate with great times, amazing people, late nights and a lot of crazy shows – ultimately leading us to keeping it as it had so much life behind it. Plus Bailey has it tattooed on his uncle now, so I doubt we’ll be changing it anytime soon.

Describe your music. What makes you unique?
As much as we love this question, we find our answer likes to change over time.. We’re for sure under the alternative metal bracket, but with all of us pulling influence from different genres, we try mixing things up a little to blend our favourite styles/genres together based on how we’re feeling during the time of writing and we feel this approach has really defined the Sydney Fate sound.
A lot of our songs come from real emotions, experiences and truths from all of us, we put ourselves in the moment and write about what’s real to us; and over time we grow as people, our music then follows suit.
We’re always looking to take our music to the next level and would say we’re for fans of Bring Me The Horizon, Linkin Park, Bullet For My Valentine and I Prevail. If you like insane guitar breakdowns, high-energy synth and double trouble vocals with powerful lyrics – then all you’ll need is your friendly neighbourhood shouty boys Sydney Fate and we’ll do our best to keep your ear holes happy.
What’s your live show like? Why are people going to watch you instead of another band?
Expect a lot of energy! We’re strong believers in making sure our audience has a great time and want everyone to get involved as much as possible! We love performing our music and want everyone in attendance to leave our show feeling like part of the band. If you’re looking for tunes that’ll get stuck in your head long after you leave the festival and have you whistling all the way home, come check us out and have a good time with us!
Have you been to Call of the Wild before? What did you think?
This is going to be a first for us! But we’re super excited to perform and are looking forward to meeting all the awesome people that the bands just like us and make festivals like this happen! A few of us will be staying for the full duration of the festival, so if you see us hanging around, feel free to come grab a drink with us and enjoy some solid tunes!
Can you put into 10 words or fewer how it felt when you realised you were heading to Call of the Wild?
Really really really really really really really really flipping awesome!
What sort of setlist can we expect?
We’re looking forward to performing some of our favourite tracks from our debut album Silicon Nitride! You can expect to hear songs of ours like “Sound Alive”, “Oceans”, and “Tacenda”. We’re also throwing in a few new tracks we released last year in 2024, and we’re excited to see how the audience take them.
Stage times haven’t been announced yet, so which other band do you most hope you’re not clashing with so you can see them play?
Personally, we think there are so many fantastic bands on the bill that are absolute belters, and we’d love to be able to catch all of them. But off the top of our heads, Kite Thief is one we’ve been looking forward to catching for a while now! We missed their last show in Cardiff so we’re hoping we can fill that craving for KT bangers at Call of the Wild Fest!
What are you working on at the moment?
We’ve got plenty of new music in the works, one we’re looking forward to announcing soon is our track “Lovers Liars”, it’s a very fresh vibe and we’re aiming for an end of summer release! Aside from the new music, we have a load of great shows lined up this year with more fantastic bands! Anyone can find out more about our shows on our website at our official site.
What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?
There’re so many hilarious answers we could provide for this that it’s hard to choose just one!
We’ve seen someone knock out their tooth from moshing too hard, seen someone get arrested midway through our set and we’ve also had a blackout hit during a performance. But thanks to the audience chanting the words as loud as they could, we were able to vocally perform another two tracks before we left the stage.
But one that really stands out for us, and we wouldn’t call it wild in the traditional sense, but a few years back we performed a show in a city we’d never played before and met a couple that were on a date and spent a good while talking with them.
Fast forward to 2024 and they’ve travelled all the way down to our hometown “Karma” release show in Cardiff to tell us that they’ve got engaged and had both bonded over our music. We’ve since been invited to perform at their wedding next year and we’re unbelievably excited and humbled that these two awesome people have asked us to be a part of such a special day to them!
What drink do you throw back to get yourself fired up before going on stage?
“Water may not be the most rock and roll answer here, but before a show you’ll probably catch us Sydney Fate lads with a fresh can of Liquid Death (preferably the mango water) to keep us nice and hydrated so we can put on a stellar high energy show! If it’s not Liquid Death we’re drinking, we’ll bet money that it’s a few nice cold pints of lager! We’re from Wales, pints are our second language.
