When Team Rock started up, many people thought that their “no advertising” business model for the radio station was a bit…unusual. Perhaps risky. Certainly innovative. When the station went off air a few months back, though, it became obvious that things weren’t going as hoped – which is a shame. It was a brave venture that failed to pay off.
Team Rock always seemed to have their heart in the right place as far as the music was concerned, but sadly in the business world this doesn’t count for everything. Our hearts go out to the 73 who find themselves suddenly out of work at this time of year (not that there’s any time that would be any better). Here’s hoping that a buyer is found sometime soon and that these folk are top of the list to get re-hired as soon as possible afterwards. Alternatively, there’s no denying that the folk at Team Rock (including Metal Hammer and all the other publications) are a ionate and talented bunch. Here’s hoping they can find new challenges and fortune elsewhere.
It’s also come to our attention that Team Rock head honcho Billy Anderson has been taken into hospital suffering from a stroke. Whether this is related to today’s announcement we don’t know – stress can certainly cause this kind of thing – but regardless we all wish him well and a speedy recovery.
UPDATE: A “Just Giving” page has popped up to raise £20,000 for the staff who’ve lost their jobs. The fundraiser was initiated by Ben Ward – yes, the one from Orange Goblin. It’s very much above board and the money will get to those affected… though sadly not until next month as it has to go through JustGiving’s machinations.
UPDATE 2: Avenged Sevenfold, assuming it’s not an alias for another donor, have donated a grand and the target has been met… and exceeded.
