When guitarists Nick Rossi (ex-City in the Sea) and Lee Mckinney (Born of Osiris) originally put their heads together to write new material for what later became In Motive, they had no idea that two years down the line to this day they would be talking about g to Sumerian Records (Asking Alexandria, Body Count, Stray From The Path etc) and working with creative mastermind Jonathan Davis of Korn.
With the two guitarists, drummer Conor White and a few instrumental tracks under their belt, they ed one of the instrumental tracks on the Sumerian Records YouTube channel in late 2016 to see whose audition would suit the band vocally. Following this, Devin Barrus was welcomed into the fold of In Motive as their vocalist. Devin’s vocal audition can be found on youtube.
On Devin’s introduction to the band, Conor says:
Devin’s voice was the perfect contrast to the instrumentation. It was a subconscious thing. We just knew he would fit.
Nick weighs in saying:
He brought in a unique element that we never expected. We wanted a singer whose voice you could identify with the band right off the bat. He was the best fit we could’ve ever found. Moreover, he felt the music the way we did.
With Devin now at the helm of the bands vocals, they were in place to finally put their album into materialisation with none other than Jonathan Davis and Nick Sampson producing the record.
Guitarist Nick Rossi says this of working with Jonathan and Nick:
We’re super comfortable with Nick Sampson, he’s really tight with us and even played bass on the record. We’re all Korn fans, and working with Jonathan was just incredible. To be able to hang with him and get insights into what he’s seen throughout his years in the industry and hear his opinion on our songs was unbelievable. He took our vision and helped us get to where we need to be.
What has surfaced from their efforts in the studio is their new single “Revival” which can be seen below and “The Disconnect” which is now available to view here having been matured as a musical idea from the original YouTube auditions. As far as album details go, we’ll just have to keep our ears to the ground for the time being.
