We’ll Be There: Girlz Rawk – Manchester / London March 9/10

Another festival to make itself known to us is this year’s Girlz Rawk taking place at The Factory, Manchester (9th March) and Nambucca, London (March 10th). We’ll be hitting the Manchester date and bringing our usual voluminous coverage of the bands on display.

The Girlz Rawk! Weekender is a two-day event split across two cities, celebrating International Women’s Day and bringing together some of the finest up-and-coming artists from as far afield as Italy, Sweden and Scotland to perform at the all-day rock music extravaganza.

With something for every musical taste, Girlz Rawk! includes performers from numerous genres including symphonic, progressive, indie, rock and punk and while aiming to be an inclusive event it does, as the name suggests, focus primarily on music written and performed by women – but Girlz Rawk! isn’t just about the music.

“It’s about getting out there and celebrating women rock musicians,” explains event organiser and musician Danny Merton, “not just because they are women but because they rock and deserve a platform to be heard.”

“It feels like there’s always been a discord between women and rock music,” he continues, “even though a large proportion of rock fans are women and more and more women are ing rock and metal bands. For some reason it seems acceptable to be a fan of a women if she’s a pop idol but less so if she’s performing rock or metal, but women like Lizzy Hale and bands like Arch Enemy and now Jinjer are proving that in most cases they can rock harder and heavier than most of the solely male groups.”

“In the end it shouldn’t matter who is performing, great music is always great music and Girlz Rawk! has no shortage of excellent music.”

Headliners across the two days are Italian melodic power metal band Kalidia returning to the UK to promote their latest album The Frozen Throne. The music video for the album’s title track has reached almost 1.5 million views on YouTube.

Also featuring on the bill are Swedish rockers Thundermother (who impressed at last year’s Sabaton Open Air). Having completed a sell-out European tour at the end of 2018, Girlz Rawk! are excited to bring their brand of hard-hitting classic rock back to the UK. With numerous festival appearances including Sweden Rocks and the Kiss Cruise, Thundermother put on a brilliant, high-powered show with plenty of you know what.

Of course Girlz Rawk! features plenty of amazing UK talent including progressive metal act and a headliner at Edinburgh’s The Mousetrap) to name a few.

“It would be great if everyone came out and got behind these bands,” ends Danny, “and help us make both the Manchester and London events the success that I know they should be.”

Tickets are available from See Tickets for both dates, direct from The Factory in Manchester and from the event’s website. Both dates are a tenner plus fees. Seriously, how can you not go at that price?
