Yeah, OK, I it that this one’s jumped the queue on novelty value… given that the vocalist is an actual freaking pit bull. Also, it’s a charity release, and we like those. Promo 2024 will appropriately be raising funds for Angel City Pit Bulls, based in Los Angeles.
This is one of the briefest releases we’ve reviewed with a total running length across five tracks of less than we’ve had for some singles. But this isn’t uncommon for hardcore or grind, of which this is arguably a heady, canine mix. Each track hits and hits hard, and it’s a credit to the band and production crew that it sounds like a “regular” release. Spike doesn’t bark so much as growl, and as such is fit to rub shoulders with many two-legged vocalists. It would have been easy to shove his simplified vocal cords up front and made this more of a joke release, but instead he’s been treated with the respect he deserves, his guttural calls raising nervous hairs rather than amused eyebrows.
If you like the abrasive kind of music that you can sample below, then shelling out a few quid for some tunes that will go to benefit some other lovely pooches would be money well spent.
