There will be times where you will think you have experienced the best possible and still, after years you will be surprised as if it was your first experience. Since my first live show back in 2013, Sonata Arctica has been my favourite band of all. And just when I thought after their incredible show for the Stones Grow Her Name tour that I had experienced my best live show… Anyway, let’s get down to the review:
Power Quest
I only found out Power Quest would open the a few days before the show and needless to say I was very excited! Not only was I impressed by the energy of the band and the ion they show while playing but the crowd’s was just as impressive. The 6 song set felt far too short and only made me wish I could see a headline show sometime soon! Just like the rest of the crowd, I watched the band finish their set with a loud chant for more Power Quest! (9/10)
Twilight Force
After mis
sing their opening set last year I was very hyped to finally see Twilight Force. Needless to say they were just as great, if not better, than expected with great energy on stage and a good mix of old and new songs played. Though their set was compromised primarily of newer songs, they did feature plenty of old ones as well to get the crowd singing along. The costumes worn by the band made the set feel even more mystical and I was completely engulfed by the show from beginning to end. After their performance, I was starting to think it would be impossible by that point to top these two amazing opening acts! (10/10)
Sonata Arctica
After having witnessed some amazing acts, I wasn’t sure if Sonata would be able to step up to the mark. Opening with 2 songs from their latest album, The Ninth Hour, along with “Wolves Die Young” from Pariah’s Child, the band exploded on stage in expert form. As the show went on, the band dug deep into the history, bringing out songs such as “The Power of One” and “Tallulah”. With the vocals of Tony Kakko and the amazing musicianship of the other musicians, the band delivered what was possibly the best performance I’ve ever seen. Next springs tour cannot come soon enough!
