A couple of days ago, one of our photographers, Sean Larkin, witnessed Glenn Hughes play a “fantastic night of rock” at Nottingham’s rescue rooms. Below is what he made of the evening. Take it away Sean!
It might be a freezing Thursday night in January, but when tonight’s band (and for the entire Glenn Hughes European tour), Stone Broken take to the stage, things start heating up very quickly!
Despite an early door time, the Midlands quartet draw a good crowd and get the place rocking in time to their music. With songs from their recently released All In Time being played alongside a new track, “Just a Memory”, the eager fans sang along without missing a single word. A great start to the evening from a band that, in my opinion, could go very far in the near future.
From one of the younger rock bands, we move on to one of the masters of rock in Glenn Hughes, who is touring in of his latest album, Resonate. With a career that started in the 60’s, the man is still as cool as they come and every inch the rock star as he walks on stage and straight into “Flow”, taken from the latest album. Right from the first notes he has the crowd under his control and he follows up the song with “Muscle & Blood” and “Getting Tighter”.
As well as tracks from the new album, an album which he wrote while recovering from a double knee replacement I might add, we are also treated to tracks from Hughes’ time with Trapeze, Deep Purple and more recently, Black Country Communion. Not only are his bass skills superb, his voice is also on top for. ing him on stage, his band do a great job of playing through classics such as “Medusa” and “Black Country” before returning to the stage for a two song encore consisting of “Heavy” and “Burn”.
Whilst it may only be January, tonight has already got to be a contender for my gig of the year. A fantastic night of rock!!
