The Prophets (now Everything Aside) / Operation Guillotine / Pretty Vile / Mara Falls – The Arches, Coventry (26 November 2017)

This was a very special show for Coventry pop-punk three-piece The Prophets as it was their last ever show under that name; as of November 27th the band will be called Everything Aside.

The band announced the new name via Facebook on 10 November and had this to say:

After 7 years of being The Prophets, we’ve decided to take a step forward and undergo a complete rebrand for ourselves and for the direction our music. During the writing process of our new material, we began to feel as if we were creating something we’d never done before. We’ve never been more willing to give all we’ve got into this band, therefore, as of November 27th, we will known as Everything Aside. We’re still the same band. We’ll still play the same songs you guys know and love. We’re just taking a step forward and we couldn’t be more excited, and we hope you guys can also see this as a great new beginning for us.

To celebrate seven years as The Prophets, the band played a hometown show at The Arches in Coventry, with from Mara Falls, Pretty Vile and Operation Guillotine.

First on stage were alt-rock three-piece Mara Falls. Their indie-sound went down well with the crowd and the band proved to be a excellent start to the evening. The trio looked effortlessly cool on stage as they played a great set including “One For The Road” and debut single “Getaway”.

Next up were punk-rock band Pretty Vile who I have seen live a couple of times now. They have a strong punk vibe and Kitty’s vocals worked perfectly with their self-penned songs as well as their strong covers of the likes of The Misfits and American Baseball. They are a young band full of raw energy.

Third to take to The Arches stage were five-piece female-fronted rock band Operation Guillotine whose aim is to “bring good vibes to dark times”, telling the crowd that all they asked was that they enjoyed themselves. Alice gave a commanding performance on vocals as usual, backed by her equally as enthusiastic band mates. These guys are incredibly fun and you can’t help but get caught up in their carefree vibe. Their set included their cracking cover of “Teenagers” by My Chemical Romance.

Closing out proceedings were hometown heroes and tonight’s headliners The Prophets, a former Band of the Day. There was a brilliant atmosphere in the room packed with friends, family and fans as the trio walked on stage to their favourite song “Africa” by Toto, and opened their set with crowd favourite “Got Me So Bad“. They went on to play a selection of tracks from their two EPs, along with their brilliant cover of “St Patrick” by PVRIS.

Also included in their set were two brand new tracks taken from their forth-coming EP. “Layers” is probably their heaviest song to date and I instantly loved it. “No Mistakes” is another great track and will be the first that the band release under their new name; Everything Aside. They recently travelled to Snowdonia to make a music video to coincide with the release and it looks like it is going to be epic! The band ended their triumphant set with their infamous cover of “Believe” by Cher which got the whole room beaming from ear-to-ear and singing along with the band… and ended in a stage invasion.

Every time I see these guys live they seem to get better and better, and tonight was no exception. Kate, Nathan and Kris have got stronger and stronger since I first saw them play a few years ago, and the two new tracks are an exciting taste of the direction the band are looking to take, whilst staying true to their signature sound. I can’t wait to see what else they have in store for us!
