Single Review: Fallen Ashes – Wage War

Local(ish) lads done good with this one. Fallen Ashes ply their trade around the central belt of Scotland and, though we’ve heard the name before, I don’t think we’ve featured them. So thanks to the band for throwing new single “Wage War” in our direction for a bit of reviewing!

The band label themselves “alternative metal”, but on the evidence below (check out the video) they’re more metal than alternative. The song is nicely simple which makes it easy to get into, and features some great riffs. Though it belts along at a decent pace, the real headbanging comes in at the end after a sneaky downbeat bridge.

Where a lot of bands get it wrong is shoving the singer too far to the front, and this is worse when the singer isn’t… well… very good. Thin vocals are often an issue, but thankfully here we’ve got a decent set of pipes throwing out the lyrics, and they sit nicely into the mix instead of overpowering the actual music.

But, hey, this is just my opinion. Scroll down and give the song a listen for yourselves. If you like it, add it to your playlists and keep an eye out for the band playing a venue near you!
